Artist Statement
My relationship with art began as a therapeutic journey. It became a way for me to express myself in ways I couldn’t articulate verbally. Creating allowed me to explore the world, push myself to learn, and challenge myself.
When I started painting, I chose to experiment primarily with colour. I have always been drawn to colour and the way it can convey emotion, transform a landscape and tell a story.
I love painting abstract landscapes and using texture, colour, and brush strokes. As my artistic journey has advanced, I have chosen to explore different mediums, including glass, drawing, jewellery, material exploration, and printmaking.
I’ve found that pushing myself to learn different techniques and using various tools has transformed my practice. It has allowed me to take ideas and articulate them in new and exciting ways. This has been an extremely liberating experience, as I now feel I have the capacity to create art in many new ways.
An extremely eye-opening experience was researching and performing material experiments using wool. It changed the way I created art, starting from a position of knowledge first. This meant that when I created pieces, they were informed by my concerns or interests, which I believe led to the creation of powerful works.
I have always created from a place of emotion. I have used art as a form of therapy to articulate things that I can’t find the words for.
My works have become a way to learn about the world, educate myself and then articulate this to the viewer.
I love to use different mediums to find new and exciting ways to articulate my ideas. I also think learning new techniques is an empowering experience that has allowed me to push myself creatively.
